Legacies Policies

Legacies has several policies designed to promote a safe and fun game environment for all players. Players should familiarize themselves with the policies and abide by them to ensure the game runs smoothly.

Start of game: Game will commence at 8:00 pm Friday night of each event. Everyone onsite after 8:00 pm must either be in game, or wearing an OOG headband. Failure to do so may result in lose of blanket. Policy statements, rules issues, ref listings, etc will all be listed in a brief newsletter that will be passed out through Logistics during check in.

Children at game: We do not allow children at game due to the physical nature of our combat. We also feel the sometimes bawdy subject matter is not appropriate for children. The current age requirement is 16 years old to play. Persons under the age of 18 may only play with parental/guardian permission. Please contact the owner's for further information on this subject. We do reserve the right to refuse admittance based on age. Players under the age of 16 will not be admitted. Players between the ages of 16 and 18 may only attend with a waiver/permission form from their parent or guardian and must have the owner's permission to play before showing up on site. Please post to the OOG forum if you are under 18 and wish to play.

Anachronisms: Anachronistic items are objects that do not fit into the high fantasy/medieval atmosphere of Legacies. Some anachronisms (such as glasses, modern shoes or watches) are acceptable, but please keep the modern items to a minimum! The success of the game depends upon its atmosphere. Players are encouraged to add to that atmosphere whenever possible.

Fires: Most of the campsites have designated fire pits. If players choose to build a fire, it must be attended at all times. The area 10 feet around a fire is a non-combat area, as described in the rulebook.

First Three Months: During the first three months that a player attends events, their characters may not be sundered and they receive one free rewrite. If after three months, a player does not have basic garb and racial requirements they will not receive blanket.

Gentlemen’s Rule: Occasionally it may be that two players cannot bring themselves to interact with one another. This rule is part of the game for just that reason. It works like a restraining order: neither player may approach or interact with the other. If a player decides to invoke this rule, they must notify an Owner immediately. A gentleman's rule may be removed if the players reconcile. They must contact the Owners and let them know that there is no longer a need for a gentleman's rule.

Smoking: Players may never smoke indoors while on site. Additionally, cigarette butts must be disposed of in available receptacles or field stripped for later disposal. Players who see cigarette butts on the ground should pick them up and dispose of them. Excessive cigarette butts on the ground can result in the loss of the blanket for the entire membership at the end of game. Always observe any state or site rules regarding smoking; it is a privilege, not a right.

Arrival at event: If a player arrives to game before one of the Owners has opened the site, that person should remain in the parking area with all of their gear. No one should be in or around the site until one of the Owners has opened it. The first incident of being found on site before it has been opened by an Owner will result in lose of blanket. Further infractions will result in ref warnings.

Light sources: All personal light sources should be period-esque and have no open flame. Modern lights converted to look period are acceptable, such as mounting a battery powered light within a lantern or using a Halloween prop light bulb torch. Flashlights should only be used in out of game emergencies.

Character histories: All character histories should be submitted to plot@legacieslarp.org as close to the first event a character is played as possible. All character histories, in whole and in part, are subject to plot approval.

Closing ceremonies: At the end of event, after the site has been fully cleaned, everyone will be gathered together to go over any issues that came up during event. The Owners and committees will make any announcements they feel are necessary and the location of Afters will be announced.

Afters: Once everyone leaves site, many of the players will go to an area restaurant to eat and hang out. This is not really part of the game itself, but it’s something fun that all players are invited to attend. Awards are often voted on at Afters.

Player awards: At the end of event, if clean up is completed on time, the Owners will give player awards. The award categories are: Best Dramatic Role-Play,Best Comedic Role-Play, Best NPC, Best Costume, and Best Cabin. For the first four categories, only a single person may be nominated for each instance (as opposed to groups) and only one individual can win. For Best Cabin, everyone actively contributing to the cabins décor may be nominated as a group and may win as a group. The player awards are posted on the website to commemorate the winners and nominees.

Drugs and Alcohol: Illegal drugs and alcoholic beverages of any kind are strictly prohibited at Legacies. Anyone found with drugs or alcohol or found to be intoxicated at an event will be immediately banned from Legacies forever and will be required to leave site at once. Failure to comply will result in police involvement.

Out of Game Violence: Absolutely no real life violence is permitted at Legacies. Anyone expressing real life physical, and in some cases verbal, violence will be immediately removed from the site and may be banned from Legacies.
